For example: Daft Punk have listed in interviews their sources of inspiration for the Tron soundtrack as well as their latest album RAM ( ). Another idea: maybe a new category on WhoSampled to link-enable albums that way users of the site can browse influences by album. I'd be willing to accept the idea of having "Influences" and "Influenced" as a category on artist pages (Wikipedia does something similar to this for comedians see the page on Jon Stewart in the quick data bio column for example). But identifying it on a track-by-track basis and approving it case-by-case makes me think it will not end well with more discussion than it's worth. Would we see it is as a matter of necessary accuracy or integrity to recognise the influences on WhoSampled? It's one thing for Kendrick Lamar to have an interview with MTV and discuss influences influence can be illustrated throughout the career of an artist or just on one particular album or even track. Lets suggest a scenario within hip-hop: I think it goes without saying that tracks by artists like N.W.A., Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy, Wu-Tang Clan, etc. Stream ad-free with Amazon Music Unlimited on mobile, desktop, and tablet. it just seems like such a needless distinction I am certain any/every musician currently listed on this site would have a laundry list of inspirations from former (i.e. Listen to your favorite songs from Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke feat.
And looking at the idea of recognising influence/hommage macroscopically. My reservation with the idea of having a submission category for influence is, as has been pointed out already here, is that it becomes such a subjective and abstract concept that accuracy will become a huge problem as anyone could try to guess a link between 2 tracks. Oops, I just realised I had left out a key word in the byline idea: "This submission refers to a legally disputed case and does NOT necessarily reflect agreement by the WhoSampled community."
